Purpose of
the Advisory Team
An essential part of this
project is to make decisions about how we collect
information, conduct analysis, and disseminate findings in
conjunction with knowledgeable stakeholders, particularly
those outside of the academic community or the state
Department of Health Services. The Advisory Team will guide
us in our assessment of air pollution, pesticides, and
health outcomes in the Central Valley and South Coastal air
basins. The team will also direct us in our efforts to
create and disseminate materials to stakeholders in the most
appropriate and accessible manner. Lessons learned from the
Advisory Team will inform the planning of statewide and
national tracking networks.
Composition
of the Advisory Team
The Advisory Team will
consist of about 15 key stakeholders from various agencies
whose target populations may reside in either the Central
Valley or South Coast (Los Angeles Metropolitan area). We
selected potential team members based on (1) how the results
of the project will affect their program/organization, (2)
whether they are affected by the selected exposure or health
outcome, and (3) their interest and experience in
research/data use, policy/advocacy, and
outreach/education/direct service. We expect to finalize
the membership of the Advisory Team by April 2004.
Roles and
Responsibilities of the Advisory Team
The Advisory Team will:
Advise
the project staff to ensure that project activities are
performed in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner
Serve
as a consultation body to review and comment on project
activities:
Guide the development of
the project logic model and evaluation plan
Identify broader
stakeholder groups and determine their levels of
participation and methods of communication
Identify opportunities to
expand the reach of the project if feasible (e.g.
including additional data sources)
Alert project staff to
information needs
Review project findings
Collaborate on the
development of education and outreach materials
Facilitate development of a
dissemination strategy
Communicate
project goals, progress, and findings to diverse
stakeholders
When
applicable, build sustainable local capacity on issues
addressed by the project, which may include collaboration
with existing or future projects and with efforts related to
exposure/health outcome.
The
Advisory Team will meet approximately four times a year,
every quarter or as needed, until the end of the project in
September 2006. Additionally, participants may be asked to
review draft documents and provide input on project
activities between meetings as needed.
