What is the goal of the CEHTP Planning Consortium?

In order to facilitate the development of a statewide Environmental Health Tracking Network (EHTN), a Planning Consortium (PC) has been convened to address issues of planning, implementation, and evaluation of the California Environmental Health Tracking Program (CEHTP).

Who is on the Planning Consortium?

The California Department of Health Services, (CDHS) in cooperation with the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) and the University of California, has brought together a group of diverse stakeholders that represent a range of expertise regarding environmental health issues. This group includes (1) technical experts from federal, state and local health and environmental agencies, and (2) key collaborators in implementing an EHTN, such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), disease-affected groups, health care providers, and foundations.  The diversity of the Planning Consortium reflects the diversity of stakeholders statewide who are concerned with environmental health issues and allows for checks and balances of differing priorities and interests.

What activities will the Planning Consortium undertake?

The PC is providing guidance to program staff on a variety of components of this three-year planning program, including:

Plan and implement a statewide needs assessment to identify and prioritize state and local needs for health tracking, and to evaluate existing capacity among key stakeholders to implement an EHTN in California.

Develop a training strategy to increase capacity for environmental health tracking.

Develop an outreach and education strategy to communicate information generated through environmental health tracking to diverse stakeholders.

Develop an evaluation strategy to measure the effectiveness of program activities.

Develop a set of key recommendations to CDC for implementation of an EHTN.

What are the roles and responsibilities of a Planning Consortium member?

The PC will meet quarterly (one day meetings) for three years to review program staff and collaborators' progress.  In addition to meeting quarterly, PC members may review draft documents and teams may be convened via conference call as necessary.  See the right column of this page for materials from the past meetings.  See roles and responsibilities of all program partners >>

What are the PC workgroups?

There are many stakeholder groups within the California Environmental Health Tracking Program that advise and provide key input for specific components of the program.  These workgroups are contributing significantly in the three-year planning process and are shaping the future of environmental health tracking in California.  Click here to see a list of the workgroups >>
